The Shawnee Chamber's Women Inspiring Women Affinity Group September 6 meeting will again be at Eggtc. Shawnee for breakfast at 8:00 A.M. Each Women Inspiring Women meeting offers Shawnee area working ladies the chance to network with one another and to dive into a special topic. We will be learning about the Arts Council of Johnson County from Sarah VanLanduyt, Executive Director. The Arts Council of Johnson County enhances the quality of life in Johnson County by strengthening the Arts. They work to promote the cultural and economic development of Johnson Country through the arts. The Arts Council understands the significant ability the arts has to inspire, innovate and open people up to different perspectives while allowing us share ideas and solve problems.
Sarah VanLanduyt is Executive Director of The Arts Council of Johnson County (ACJC). During her 15 years at ACJC, she’s focused on state and local arts advocacy and developing cross-sector partnerships in health & wellbeing, veterans support, education, and community development. Most recently, the Arts Council developed a new statewide Kansas Arts Council Symposium and worked with legislators and arts leaders across Kansas to successfully advocate for an increase to the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (KCAIC) budget. In 2020, Sarah managed Johnson County’s Covid-19 Cultural Arts Relief Program: Direct Grants for Artists which supported 44 artists. In 2023, ACJC and the American Rescue Plan Advisory Committee successfully advocated for $2 million in Johnson County State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds for the Johnson County creative arts industries. Prior to joining ACJC, Sarah served as Program Manager for Organizational Support at the Kansas Arts Commission (KAC). While at the KAC, Sarah coordinated professional development workshops for arts & cultural organizations and managed two community-based arts grant programs.
Sarah holds a master’s in museum administration. Throughout her professional career she has served on local nonprofit boards and state and national advisory committees including the Youth Symphony of Kansas City board, University of Saint Mary Business Department Advisory Board, and Americans for the Arts’ County Arts Network Steering Committee. She currently serves as the Kansas co-captain for federal arts advocacy and was recently appointed as a commissioner to the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission.
